    Hi Philip,

Hows it going? Excellent post my good fella and agree with everything in that infographic. As a web developer and now blogger I create unique and bespoke php powered websites as well as bespoke and unique WordPress themes (my own blog being no different).

I think every blogger serious about their blog should also consult a freelancer for advice on their blog. As one myself I am obsessed with site speed and I use things like Lighthouse on chrome as well as services like Stackpath to get the sites I create to load in (hopefully) under a second.

Embracing new technology and techniques is something that I always do and have started coding mine and my clients sites to use the new webp format to further reduce the TTFB time.

I am also a great believer in keeping things simple and not over-bloating a site with loads of plugins. If a client of mine wants a certain functionality that’s provided by a plugin and If I think that certain functionality can be coded into the theme I’m building then that’s what I will do.

My current blog has only 9 plugins currently running which is why it loads in just a few seconds and has a performance grade on 97 on lighthouse but I think this can be further improved.

I also recently found that my setup with Stackpath was blocking the google spiders and on the search console I was getting a 403 not fetched error on my sitemaps. Something I have now got sorted within 30 mins after a quick chat with them and my host.

Anyway that’s my 2 pennies worth Philip. Just a quick question Philip, what with the example widget at the top in your inner second sidebar as to me its not doing anything?

    All the best,
    Phillip Dews

One of the biggest things that is so easy to fall into as a new blogger is creating content that doesn’t have clear benefit as it’s focus. These are all very true and very helpful for any blogger!

    Hi Philip,

This is the shortest and valuable informative post I’ve seen.

Luckily, I am aware that most of the tools you mentioned here but to work on these are the hardest task.

As a new blogger, I find it quite difficult to manage everything well.

Thanks for sharing this post. It is very useful. How did you manage when you started?

    Cheers,

    Philip,

Of course, the common SEO mistakes but that needs attention. Especially, I am happy that you have mentioned a point about “too much clutter above the fold”. Top of the pages is the area where people spend some time to skim through to evaluate the whole content. That makes the reader abandon the page or continue reading. So, it must be worthwhile. Having irrelevant or unwanted discussions would make them feel bored. simple but clear-cut infographics. Great!

  8. Great infographic Phil,
I think the most devastating mistake is setting the site at no-index after publishing. And people wonder why they aren’t indexed.
The other common mistake is thinking content is enough and you don’t need links.
not true and proof that folks are afraid to link build.

  12. Hi Phil, the most common SEO mistake I see is not having proper site architecture, i.e., having some, or most pages 3+clicks away from the homepage.
As we know, homepage is like a pool of Page Rank and closer a page is to a homepage the more authoritative is in the eyes of Google.
Ideally, it’s just one click away.

The typical SEO errors, however, require attention. In particular. Top of the pages is the area where people spend time attempting to determine the material. It prompts the reader to leave the page or keep reading. It must therefore be valuable. They would be distracted by meaningless or unnecessary arguments. The infographics are basic but simply Great!
