A post for the day one for the A To Z Blog Challenge April 2012

After a much thought, at last, I have decided to enter into this new challenge.
As usual almost at the fag end of the cut off time, I entered the fray to write about Ariel the knol author.
Luckily there is enough time to get into the list.
This is the second of such challenge I am participating in my 2-3 years of web writings.
First one, “A 7 Day Blogging Challenge for Bloggers” initiated by Jenson Taylor of U K.
Though I have completed the posting before the deadline, unfortunately, due to the technical problem with the program, my name did not appear in the voting fray.
Here is a link to have a quick glance at my “7 Day Blogging Challenge” contents.
When one of my co-author friends, a longtime associate in my web writing field, told me about this new challenge, because of my bad experience with the first challenge, my initial thinking was: –  Hey, what man! What is this blog challenge business!  This too will be the same as the previous one!

Not only that I thought this will be just a fun for the people who have no other business, especially the sit at home Moms/housewife’s business.  And not much worth working with such writings.   I said about this to another longtime friend and a close associate and a co-author of me said, “No Philips, it’s really worth entering in it.   You and your writings will be exposed to many people and you may get a good traffic to your blog pages”

That point was good and I experienced that slight touch (the increase in page views in my blogs) from the previous one.  Yes, my page traffic increased tremendously in those 7 days period.  And  that experience and challenge prompted me to enter into the new one  A – Z blogging challenge for 2012

Before jotting down these lines for the challenge for the first day, my mind traveled fast to different things people and places.  In that speed travel, I could think of many subjects to start with.
But suddenly my inner thoughts stopped me where I started.  Yes, it stopped at  me, the knol author, thus this thought about the person called ‘Ariel”
Ariel a Keralite (people belongs to Kerala – a southern state in India are called) now settled at Secunderabad Andhra Pradesh another southern state in India). Read more about this blogger at the following links.

  8. Hi Erika,

I am sorry, that was a very old post and i just updated it and posted,
Knol was a wonderful platform developed by the great search engine Google!
The word “KNOL” is the short form of “KNOWLEDGE”.

They planned it exactly like Wikipedia, that was going on well and many well known scientists,
authors and intellectuals were the main users of that platform, hot discussions and debates were going on with its users and everyone thought that it will surely beat Wikipedia!

But sad to say Google shut that shop after running few years, (I think just after 2 years). The reason they said is not enough staff to manage such a huge platform. May be the income flow too was not that they expected. To tell you the truth, that was a wonderful platform and I come across with many online friends via this platform and that paved way for me to develop my talents,. The users, though they were high profile writers and researchers they were very co-operative and helpful. I still have contact and relationship with many of them.

Though Google did shut the door, fortunately, all our contents they saved and made arrangements to migrate it to the WordPress platform. They had a tie-up with WP and allowed its authors to migrate it to WP or Blogger. com or other platforms.

A few years back that was a serious discussion on the pages of many other similar platforms!
In short, that shutting down made me to start my own blog! Indeed, “A blessing in disguise”!

I wrote thise information because of your curiosity to know What KNOL is!

I am sure many new friends here too do not know what it is! So it will give an idea. 🙂

You can read more about it on this link: https://www.pvariel.com/philip-verghese-ariel-p-v-ariel-knol-author/

Or a search with the word Knol will give you more about this:
    Here is that link https://www.pvariel.com/?s=knol

I appreciate your valuable time and the enthusiasm to know more about Knol, and ha thanks for your comment.

May you have a great rest of the week

    Best Regards

    ~ Phil
