Is Today’s Lifestyle A  Disease?

Today’s lifestyle is all about young individuals running around to meet deadlines, not getting enough sleep, and constantly aiming to reach higher. The only difference is all this running around happens in cars, bikes, and public transports and not on foot. Although this may be needed for saving time and being at the top of your performance in professional life, your health remains negatively affected.

The Lifestyle These Days

#Lifestyle

We tend to work longer hours, skip meals and deal with lesser hours of sleep. All of this has an impact on health and wellbeing at later stages in life. The constant pressure and stress lead to excessively long working hours, which are balanced by fewer hours of sleep. Today’s lifestyle is no doubt, “a root cause for diseases” like obesity, diabetes, heart disease risk, and increased cholesterol. This is because most of us lead a sedentary lifestyle without enough exercise and the right food intake. We do not pay much attention to the food we eat.

Sitting Is Killing – A new lifestyle

We sit in the office (now most at Home) for long hours at a stretch and come home to relax in front of the television. We usually have dinner while watching television which is one of the biggest reasons for obesity. The health of an individual is affected by various reasons, and lifestyle is one of the main factors. We try to live our life to the fullest over the weekends, this is when we do not care about another day and eat and drink as per our wish. On other days, we might skip breakfast, rush the lunch hour, and grab a quick dinner in front of the television.

All these factors lead to various imbalances inside the body. Apart from the same, people face stress and anxiety in their life, which is aggravated due to physical inactivity. There are various reasons that cause tension and stress to an individual and stress affects the sleeping pattern as well as appetite.

 A Healthy Lifestyle

Eating healthy, regular exercise, and allowing your body the right hours of sleep are some signs of a healthy lifestyle. Only a well-balanced diet and exercising can ensure that the body is fit and mind is healthy.

Our lifestyle has become more about sitting at the desk for long hours, even moving from one place to another does not create enough physical stimulation to contribute positively to your health.

For a healthy body, it is essential to exercise every day, consume healthy food and take enough rest. Regular health checks also go a long way from preventing major health hazards. It’s not difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you just need the right motivation and little support in your healthy activities.

Health and Wealth

These days our lifestyle has been, at times, determined by our desire to obtain sufficient wealth. While we may be successful, bad health obtained by a continuous bout of an unhealthy lifestyle can as easily take it away.

Therefore, other than maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you should also ensure that you are prepared for a rainy day. You might be down with a sudden illness or accident, and this could mean that a significant portion of your savings could go into treatment.

Health insurance policies can come to your rescue in such scenarios. Your private health insurance can cover your health care costs at times of emergency.

Usually, health insurance also makes your treatment process easy, especially financially by offering cashless hospitalization, reimbursements, recuperating expenses, etc.

Adding critical illness riders and personal accident insurance completes your protection circle to 360 degrees.

Health Insurance & Lifestyle Challenge

There are more than two dozen insurers offering health insurance in India, and the general benefits across remain almost the same, and all these insurers offer multiple types of health plans depending on your needs.

That could leave a good enough number of plans on your table to make a clear decision. But, fortunately, you are not looking only for the regular cashless and reimbursement benefits.

Private insurers like Apollo Munich offer health insurance policies that have certain unique advantages like Stay-Active benefits which not only allow you the normal health insurance cover but also provide you with a discount on the premium at the time of renewal for staying active.

They also offer regular, free preventive health check-ups for the consumers and health-related counseling and tips with each of their plans.

  1. Hey Philip,

You have shared really very amazing tips regarding this topic and they are appreciable. For a complete healthy lifestyle we should always try to eat healthy food and most important is regular exercise because it makes our body part well functioning.

We can see commonly people who have work load they only take little sleep but it can be not hygienic in term of health. Our brains need to be relaxed in proper interval of time, to create new connections and neural pathways. Most of us find it hard to think out of the box is because our brains are just too darn efficient. Eventually, thanks for sharing your best experience with us.

    With best regards,

  2. Hi Philip,

    Amen dude!

I lay in bed for 8-10 hours daily – even if I ain’t sleeping – to rest, relax, recharge and to chill out as I go through my day. Form of surrender.

But old me worked hard, strained and strived and struggled and got sick more often too. I kept reaching when all my sweetness was within arm’s length. I worked harder and longer when having fun and showing love and relaxing were the smart steps to take. Lesson learned. Because I was always a workout nut but see benefits in resting, sleeping, napping and getting offline for many hours daily so I can chill and enjoy my travels.

    Fab post and message.

    Signing off from Qatar.

  3. Hello Philip,

Thanks for this wonderful article. Yes, you are absolutely right when you say that health is of importance in keeping our lifestyle in check. We cannot rely on anyone when we get old and we have to ensure that we are mobile and healthy till the last breath. Gone are those days when children take care of their parents and grand parents by doing everything they want them to. Today lifestyle has changed so much that kids have other stuff that keeps them busy and sometimes they even move far away from parents.

We have to keep our health in check and make sure we do everything necessary to be independent of others.

    Thanks.

  8. Hi Philip, funny I just got off my exercise bike to come back to work. I know I need to drop a few pounds to get healthier and working too much on the computer can surely put a dent in that. I do sleep better these days thankfully. I feel so much better when I get 7 hours of sleep, once in a while I make it to the magic 8. Our lifestyles do impact us more than we think Phil, great post!
