How to Find Long Tail Keywords Using Google Keyword Tool

Long Tail Keywords or a Short Tail Keyword?  Yes, a good question indeed.  No doubt Keywords are very vital in Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  There is a lot of confusion that prevails in selecting or searching keywords, especially when it comes to the length of it, which is more preferable and profitable? A Long Tail Keyword or a Short Tail Keyword?   In this guest post, the SEO expert and owner of myquickidea.com Nikhil Saini writes about its value and usage in our contents.

Here is what he says on long tail keywords, Read on…

Keywords have enormous value in Search Engine Optimization. When you target the right keyword, it becomes easy to rank.  A keyword with low competition and considerable searches is the most appropriate one to work with.  Your keyword selection decides your online success as an Internet Marketer. Whether you are running a PPC campaign, blog, or a Vlog, with everything you need proper keywords.

Here you shouldn’t think that I am talking about generic keywords such as SEO, make money, etc. These are so-called head terms that are hard to rank.

If you aren’t an authority blog or website, don’t go with such keywords or key phrases.

They won’t help you in the ranking.

What next?

Do you have any other options?

Yes, of course. You have.

You can rank, and make huge money using Long tail keywords.

Long tail keyword reflects the exact intent of the searcher.

For example:

You want to search Long tail keywords using the Google Keyword Planner then the query might be something like:

“How to Find Long Tail Keywords Using Google Keyword Tool.”

The above term reflects the intent, so you will get closely related results.

The most interesting characteristic of the LT keyword is that you can know what the searcher wants exactly.

It helps you in serving to the user’s intent.   The above screenshot clearly shows that descriptive search terms lead to greater conversion.

LT keywords are more likely to rank in the search engines. They improve your visibility, this way. Shoutmeloud by Harsh Agarwal is the best example to support this concept. When you search to blogging related terms, most of the time, this blog appears in the search results.

A constant flow of organic traffic supports establishing faith in readers.

I would say Organic traffic is an easy method for trust-building than other methods like blog commenting. Commenting gives you results, but not as high as organic traffic gives. You have to comment regularly, but organic traffic doesn’t demand daily efforts.

There are multiple benefits of long keywords.

If you want a rank in the SERP, LT is the key. Google itself is a long tail keyword generator tool.

Yes, a simple tweak may give you those keywords that rank easily with few backlinks.

Let me share with you the method to find long tail keywords using the Google keyword tool.”

Turn on the “only show ideas closely related to my search terms” and click ok save button.

Fill the other details according to the above screenshot and click on Get Ideas.

For example, you just put “blog commenting sites” and now see the results.

All are long tail keywords in the above screenshot.

Now turn off the option “Only show ideas closely related to my search terms” and analyze the results.

Now the present results will get disappeared, and different results will display on the screen of the keyword planner.

.Long tail keywords

Generic keywords have taken the place of long form keywords

By using this way, you can find related keywords for your main keyword phrase very quickly. Turning ON a simple option gives you lots of related keywords that are helpful in the ranking.

Final Verdict:

Longtail keywordIt’s the power of the keyword planner. You need not go anywhere to find a long tail keyword. If you have a proper understanding of the keyword planner, it’s easy for you to find long tail keywords.

    Nicely written and explained….
Long tail keywords are what you need to work on to get targeted organic traffic that can convert. Moreover, Shoutmeloud is the living example of this. Whenever we search a long tail keyword about blogging, we find it on the very first place in results.
And google definitely is a nice place to find long tail keywords. not only google keyword planner, but also the google search result footer shows a few suggestions that are also the long tail keywords and those are the keywords that you won’t be able to find search volume in GKP. But those are highly profitable keywords.
Very helpful guide you have shared here nikhil. Have a nice day ahead.
And yes, Thanks philip sir for bringing nikhil’s awesome blogpost on your blog.

  6. Hey Nikhil,

That’s an elaborate guide on using Keyword Planner. LT & LSI keywords play a vital role for better ranking in the search engines. Along with this Google keyword tool, Google search is also a great way to find the long tail & related search terms. Though there are some good premium plugins available, but these free tools can also bring great results.

This step by step guide will be real handy for many. Take care and have a great weekend :)

  7. Hey Nikhil,
Long tail keywords, like you correctly opined, drive more targetted traffic and in the long run, converts far better.

However, long tail keywords (and their numerous variations) also help bloggers and information marketers avoid Google penalties for keyword stuffing as an article that properly follows this standard appears natural both to readers and search engines.

…while being also, very highly optimized!

Be certain to make the day great!

  8. Hi Nikhil,

Glad to read your post here on Philip sir’s blog.
I completely agree with your suggestion that it is a better to get more organic traffic by using Long Tail Keywords in our blog posts. Blog commenting has its limitation in bringing more traffic but by including Long Tail keywords, we will be able to get more traffic provided we are creating quality contents in the form of a lengthy post.

Looking forward to read more posts from you, Nikhil.

Once again thanks for the wonderful piece of write up and a special thanks to Brother Phil for introducing Nikhil here.

  27. Hey Philip,

Long-tail keywords are all the rage these days and a lot of SEO experts are now focusing on these instead of smaller money keywords. Long-tail keywords are basically the ones with comparatively low search volumes.

But collectively, they make up a majority of all online searches. These keywords have lower search volumes than popular keywords and hence, have less competition. That is why more and more SEO experts are now targeting these keywords as part of their SEO strategies.

People who search for longer, more specific keywords are usually looking for something particular and not just surfing the net. These are high-intent potential customers that can be targeted using these keywords.

You have explained this topic really very nicely and I appreciate for this, eventually thanks for exploring your informative experience with us.

    With best regards,

    Amar Kumar
